Project Description

The Assignment:

Harold K. Jordan hired The House of NyghtFalcon to photograph the completed One Midtown in Wilmington, NC. That included:
♦ Specialized areas, for example, the common areas.
♦ work-study rooms.
♦ An Apartment.
♦ Other open areas.

The Result:

NyghtFalcon met with marketing people from Harold K. Jordan, the general contractor, in order to determine how the project would be implemented. Once a plan was in place:
♦ We had to assess progress towards completing the building in the face of a hard deadline for completing our work. We had to be finished by the time the building opened.
♦ Working around the staff of the facility who were moving into the facility and going through training.
♦ There were other issues we had to manage as well – for example, work was continuing as we were photographing, and, as we were working, furniture was still arriving in the common areas and the apartments. Many of the rooms, especially the work-study rooms, were too small to accommodate strobes. We had to be very resourceful in how we lit these rooms.
♦ We also had to time where we worked to the position of the sun in relationship to some of the glass walls in order to ensure that the emotional experience of the space could be “captured.”
♦ We used strobes to ensure that the color, detail, and contrast of the space was conveyed in the images we created. There were significant challenges lighting the many spaces given the vast number of reflective surfaces.
The images we created convey the beauty of the space as we experienced it.
