Project Description
The Assignment:
Frank L. Blum Construction hired The House of NyghtFalcon to photograph the completed High Point University Congdon School of Health Sciences and Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy in High Point, NC. That included:
♦ Specialized areas, for example, nurses’ areas, exam rooms, waiting rooms, and the mechanical areas required to support the facility.
♦ The sitting area in the entrance.
♦ The massive, open, lobby.
♦ The medical equipment, labs, and related aspects of the facility.
♦ The meeting rooms and conference areas.
The Result:
NyghtFalcon met with marketing people from Frank L. Blum, the general contractor, in order to determine how the project would be implemented. Once a plan was in place:
♦ On two different days, we returned to the site to photograph different parts of the project as they were being completed. We had to assess progress towards completing the building in the face of a hard deadline for completing our work. We had to be finished by the time the building opened.
♦ Working around groups touring the new facility, so we had to coordinate with them and work to optimize their time and ours.
♦ There were other issues we had to manage as well – for example, most power outlets were not working, and, as we were working, furniture was still arriving and many of the rooms were too small to accommodate strobes. We had to be very resourceful in how we lit the rooms. Using a new technique we developed specifically for such situations, we were able to capture even the most complex scenes
♦ We also had to time where we worked to the position of the sun in relationship to some of the glass walls in order to ensure that the emotional experience of the space could be “captured.”
♦ We used strobes to ensure that the color, detail, and contrast of the space was conveyed in the images we created. There were significant challenges lighting the many spaces given the vast number of reflective surfaces.
The images we created convey the beauty of the space as we experienced it.
