Founded in 2010, The Institute is The House of NyghtFalcon’s education division and home to NyghtSchool, NyghtAcademy and NyghtWorx. NyghtSchool designs courses and seminars for occasional photographers and amateurs. NyghtAcademy focuses on seminars for serious amateurs and professional photographers. Designed to provide businesses with creative problem solving, NyghtWorx applies the NyghtFalcon Methodology to business development and reengineering.

Seminars offered in the School and the Academy lead to certification. Seminars in the School are transferable to the Academy. In addition to the regularly offered seminars, The Institute can design seminars that meet specific requirements. All the seminars offered by NyghtWorx are preceded by business analysis and are designed to meet specific business challenges. For more information, please contact us.

Boot Camp:

The journey begins here.

The NyghtFalcon Methodology is based upon a simple idea: We see what we have been told we will see. We find what we have been told we will find. We think about the world the way we have been told the world must be. Art, however, isn’t about seeing the world the way we have been told we must see it. Art begins when we see the world again, for the first time.

To that end, in Boot Camp we learn how to see the world again for the first time – intellectually, emotionally, artistically. The goal of this seminar is to learn how to let go of all those presuppositions language, culture and education have given us so that we can both literally and figuratively see the world again for the first time. In the course of this seminar we will explore time, space, light and emotion. We will use the NyghtFalcon Methodology to learn how to begin re-experiencing the world around us with a freshness reminiscent of how we saw the world when we were children.

This seminar is offered every month. It begins at 9:00 AM, The Green Hill Cemetery, Greensboro, NC. To preview Boot Camp click here If you wish to enroll, click on the Buy Now button.
Dates
NyghtVision Basics:

This seminar is a basic introduction to the NyghtFalcon methodology as well as a general introduction to photography. This seminar focuses on the application of the NyghtVision Methodology to the fundamentals of photography. We will cover basic composition, the rule of thirds, depth of field, determining where to place depth of field and using negative space.

The key to internalizing any methodology is to practice it. In the second half of this seminar, we will learn how to apply the NyghtVision Methodology to a variety of contexts within an urban environment. In additional to core technical concepts we will focus on thinking about space, light and time. Special topics include depth of field, focal plane, determining dynamic range of color, and the basics of photojournalism.

This seminar begins Friday evening with an optional reception and ends Sunday after lunch. Sunday concludes with a critique of student work conducted by instructors.
Seminar Dates

In the fall of 2007, The House of NyghtFalcon offered its first seminars. Those initial seminars were developed to meet the needs of amateur photographers, including the first time camera owner. Those seminars grew out of the way we trained our own photographers. Since that time, the number of seminars has grown and the original five seminars now number more than 20.

These seminars assume only that the student is interested in photography. We begin at the very beginning. These seminars are as much about personal growth as they are about learning photography. They are directed toward one end – helping each student develop his or her signature style while increasing each person’s skills.

That journey begins with Boot Camp. In that seminar we teach the core methodology that forms the foundation for everything we will do in each and every course. Other courses follow and students are encouraged to follow their interests in exploring various disciplines within photography.

NyghtVision Basics:

A basic introduction to the NyghtFalcon methodology including general terminology and application of photography fundamentals. We will cover basic composition, the rule of thirds, depth of field, determining where to place depth of field and using negative space. The key to internalizing any methodology is to practice it. In the second half of this course, we will learn how to apply the NyghtVision to a variety of contexts within an urban environment. In additional to core technical concepts we will focus on thinking about space, light and time.

NyghtLighting Basics:

Ambient Light refers to the collection of all forms of light in a given space at a given time. In this course, we will focus on using natural light to create dramatic and powerful images. We will also learn how to use light modifiers to supplement and structure creative photographs. Tools will include reflectors, scrims and bounce boards.

Photojournalism:

Photojournalists capture life as it happens in the intense urgency of the moment. Learn how to prepare your camera and your self for unobtrusively shooting rapidly unfolding events. Preserving the naturalism of your subject is a skill to be developed. Opening yourself to the emotions of your surroundings will prepare you to preserve fleeting memories.
NyghtAcademy was founded in 2009. Its mission is to offer artistically, intellectually and technically challenging seminars for the serious amateur, semi-professional and professional photographers and videographers. The NyghtFalcon Methodology forms the core around which the Academy’s curriculum is based. That methodology is coupled with a strong technical curriculum that is the foundation for artistic expression and for the creation of emotionally powerful images and films.

For the student who enters the Academy from the School, he or she does not need to repeat coursework already taken. Rather, he or she need only make up the difference in depth and experience not offered in the School. Students in the Academy are urged to choose a path toward certification – be that nature, landscapes, fashion, fine art, or some other artistic segment. However, as is the case in the School, the goal of Academy is not concentration It is learning to think and experience the world according to a methodology that extends well beyond any one discipline.

Seminars are generally two days in length. We also offer “destination” seminars that are immensely challenging – physically as well as artistically.

The most effective way to cope with business and personal challenges is to envision new possibilities, essentially “to think outside the box.” Presenting new possibilities is a matter of learning to rethink the assumptions upon which one has been told one’s business or life must be structured. Often, recreating one’s business or rejuvenating one’s life involves seeing the obvious, considering the impossible, and envisioning a new future.

As has been said many times, in our world, change is the only constant. Failure to adapt and change can and often has devastating consequences. As much as change is a part of our world, most of us are ill-equipped to handle it. Adapting and changing, growing and becoming, are essential parts of the world of the House of NyghtFalcon and the methodology which assists us in that process is a core component of our artistic endeavor.

Seminars from NyghtWorx supply a methodology that can build a bridge between the present and the future. They are designed to assist individuals and organizations to adapt to change effectively. A personal consultation will provide the information required to tailor the seminar for your particular needs.

In 2006, we formed our first partnership. That partnership was with DxO Labs, headquartered in Paris. When DxO established its Image Masters Program, we were privileged to be included. Since then, our partnership has grown and matured. The fruit of that partnership is evident in every aspect of our workflow and in the exchange of ideas between DxO and The House of NyghtFalcon. That first partnership has served as the foundation for all our relationships with other firms.

Why do we partner? There are many reasons. Principle amongst them are these: As much as we are artists, photography and videography are technology driven. By partnering with the best technology firms in the world, we extend our expertise and enhance our work. Further, the exchange of ideas that occurs between our firm and our partners allows us to participate in the development of new products and services. Finally, we firmly believe that the whole can be greater than the sum of its parts and by partnering with firms that share a common vision, we are stronger, better able to compete as partners than as individual forms.

Partnering also means that our students have access to leading edge products and technology. We invite all our students to explore these products and services both in our seminars and on their own. Where applicable, discount codes are included.
